• Scan a quarter of a mile or 15 seconds up the road
• Leave ample space when returning to right lane after passing
• Increase following distance in bad weather

• Clean mirrors and adjust seat before leaving
• Use the "Lean and Look" Method

• Pay attention to your mirrors
• Watch for vehicles hiding in your blind spots

  Be Prepared

• Prepare before changing lanes to avoid a last-minute maneuver
• Plan for the unexpected from other drivers
• Don't let failing to prepare become a contributing factor in an accident

  Communicate

• Assume other vehicles don't see you
• Don't let vehicles hang out in your NOZONE
