What? Ketchup is by far America's favorite condiment. We eat it on burgers. We eat it on hot dogs. Some of us eat it on eggs. And almost everybody eats it on French fries. Each year, the average American consumes about seventy one pounds of ketchup. There's just something that we love about the sweet, savory, slightly tangy tomato concoction. Let's take a look at how trucking and transportation play a key role in the supply chain that delivers the six point two billion pounds of ketchup that Americans eat every year. The story of ketchup begins just where you might guess, on a farm. Step one of the process occurs when tomatoes are harvested and immediately loaded into waiting agricultural trucks. From there, step two of the supply chain occurs. Truck drivers with trailers designed specifically for produce deliver the time sensitive product to the processing plants. These trucking jobs are generally local or regional, and the drivers may follow the produce north as the ripening and harvesting season progresses. Ketchup production is done quickly to preserve freshness, taste, and consistency. Once the product is ready, trucks pick up the ketchup for delivery to regional distribution centers. Once our ketchup has reached the local distribution center, the product is separated for local delivery drivers to pick up. Local drivers are generally home each night. These drivers also make the final delivery to grocery stores, convenience stores, and restaurants. The ketchup supply chain would not work without cutting edge logistics technology and the combination of regional, OTR, dedicated, and local delivery drivers. Thanks to their efforts, ketchup is in ninety seven percent of American homes. Hey, can you pass the ketchup, please?
Think about the kind of place you'd like to work right out of school. Chances are you want to work with a company that cares as much about you as the bottom line. A company where you can make a difference. A company that's committed to your community, to the environment, to diversity. A company where you can grow and help others grow along the way. All of that is absolutely possible and it's closer to home than you might expect. Because Averitt is a company that values all of these same qualities and has a fifty year track record to prove it. Now, if your image of the transportation industry is one of smoke spewing semis and truckers wearing mesh ball caps, we've got news for you. Things have changed. Today's transportation industry is about connecting people and communities. It's about technology. And it's about supporting the supply chains that weave around the world and touch every part of your life. Because every phone you've ever owned, every car you've ever driven, every online purchase you've ever made has only existed because of the global supply chain and the drivers and professionals who make it possible. They're the wheels that keep the world rolling, and Averitt offers you a great way to be a part of that. We have opportunities for any stage of your early career. Whether you're looking for a first job or a chance to develop and grow, if you're looking for work that moves on the road, on the dock, or in the office, take a look at Averitt and take your next step on an exciting new journey.
