The Averitt team is proud to support our associates in safe driving practices. With the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's (CVSA) International Roadcheck quickly approaching, here are some of the ways you can make your 2023 roadside inspection a breeze all while upping your safety in the driver's seat.
Helpful Tips
The CVSA holds the International Roadcheck each year to better ensure the safety of CDL-A drivers. This year, inspections will take place from May 16-18 at weigh/inspection stations, designated inspection areas, and along roadways. All inspections will have an emphasis on antilock brake systems (ABS) and cargo securement.
We know there can be some stress involved in these inspections, but remember that you've already done most of the work in abiding by safety regulations! You should always complete full and thorough pre- and post-trip inspections according to federal regulations, however, to help ease some worries, here are some key areas to focus on as you complete your inspections leading up to International Roadcheck:
Once you approach a roadside inspection, it's helpful to maintain a positive and professional attitude. Keeping your truck clean and organized, with all the correct documents ready to present, can also take off a lot of stress. Feel like you might need a refresher on all the documents you should keep in your truck? We've got your back!
Documents
Some of the documents you may be asked to present during International Roadcheck include, but are not limited to: your CDL, valid federal medical examiner's certificate, hours-of-service documentation, motor carrier registration, and shipping papers/documentation.
You may also need to present a copy of our insurance certificate and hazardous materials certificate (if applicable), both of which should be kept in your truck. Additionally, an up-to-date permit book, a charged and secured fire extinguisher, the required emergency equipment (three reflective triangles), and proof of annual inspection for all equipment should be accessible and ready to present to the inspector.
We do our best to support our drivers and prepare them for anything on their truck driving journey. Want more out of your carrier? Connect with Averitt today.
