Averitt has a strong track record of listening to our associates' feedback, and one way we've done that is with the new Volvo trucks that have come into our system! We asked our drivers for their thoughts on the new VNL sleeper cabs and VNR daycabs, and we invested in every safety technology feature that Volvo offers.
In these videos, our associates and Volvo's representatives share what makes these trucks a great addition for our team!
Hi, I'm Doug Lloyd, Director of Maintenance at Averitt Express. We are here today at Volvo's Customer Center with some of our best Averitt drivers to get their feedback on Volvo Trucks' latest innovations in safety, comfort, and driver productivity. We are proud of our long standing partnership with Volvo Trucks, and our driver's input helps us to work together to better protect and support them on the road. Driver satisfaction is important to our company and Volvo. At Averitt, we take advantage of every safety technology Volvo offers because our number one goal is to ensure our drivers' well-being. At Volvo, we spare no expense in providing the most advanced safety systems for our customers, and Averitt shares that same value. Volvo Active Driver Assist has a forward facing camera and radar to assist with collision avoidance. Camera and radar work together to detect slowly moving and stationary vehicles in front of the truck. Once detected, audio and visual warnings alert the driver to take necessary actions to avoid a potential collision. This includes a heads up warning on the windshield. If the driver does not take action, Volvo Active Driver Assist will begin to slow the vehicle and engage the brakes to assist the driver in stopping the vehicle. Additionally, Volvo Active Driver Assist provides adaptive cruise control to help Averitt drivers maintain a safe following distance. I felt very safe behind the wheel of this truck. When I had cars just decided to pull out in front of me, this truck took control and it actually slowed me down and kept me safe. Volvo Active Driver Assist also integrates a lane departure warning system. This system alerts you when an unintentional lane change occurs if the turn signal is not activated. The new VNL features all new LED lighting inside and out. The new LED headlamps provide several advantages. Improved nighttime vision. The color of LED lamps is closer to daylight, helps reduce eye strain. Our LED lighting is best in class and improves visibility for safety and driving performance. Volvo headlamps have a unique feature that circulates air to prevent fogging and ice formation. Averitt tractors have heated hood mirrors on both sides for improved visibility. Averitt tractors are also equipped with a right side blind spot monitoring feature. It is positioned behind the passenger chassis fairing, so it does not interfere with the aerodynamics of the chassis fairing. The sensor monitors the right side of the vehicle, providing the driver audible and visual alerts if there's a vehicle in your blind spot. An orange visual alert can be seen in the A pillar. Improved access for checking fluid levels as part of the pre trip inspection. Everything is easily color coded and very easy to read, for when you're checking your oil and your coolant, power steering fluid levels. It's all very easily accessible where you can actually stay somewhat clean, if if not spotless, while you're doing a pre trip. So you don't have to get all dirty. Averitt trucks are equipped with the latest Volvo powertrain. This includes the d thirteen, a fuel efficient thirteen liter engine coupled to the Volvo I shift, an automated manual transmission. The Volvo iShift has twelve forward gears to provide smooth acceleration for all types of loads and operating conditions. Without having to shift gears, you're more able to focus on driving. It will also reduce fatigue during the course of a day. With our new cabs, we have improved the ease of entry and exit to the cab for any type of driver. The puddle lamps provide visibility to help entering and exiting the cab to avoid hazards in the dark. The doors on the V and L have an extremely wide opening to make it easier to enter and exit the cab with the ideal position of the grab handles for three points of contact. The steps are molded into the fairings and have anti skid perforations. Notice the new sleek interior trim, which includes metal hex panels. This seat has a variety of adjustment options, including lumbar support to make it comfortable for every driver. The driving environment has been ergonomically designed. Notice the switches are strategically positioned as well. To the left of the steering wheel are switches to support the driver if they need to access the controls outside the vehicle. This includes the ignition. The switches normally used during driving are located to the right of the steering wheel in an easy to see and reach position. For example, this includes the fifth wheel controls, controls the hook and drop trailers, and any other switches used to operate the vehicle. The secondary auxiliary switches that are not commonly used for the driver's seat are positioned to the right of the driver below the wheel. The layout and design of the steering wheel controls are very similar to what you have on your car. Audio, phone, and cruise control are all within easy reach, allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel and focused on the road. I like that everything's within hands reach, all the steering wheel controls that it comes with. Everything is designed in this truck for the driver. No matter what you're needing to do, you can do it all from here, from the cockpit. The power windows have one touch down feature. The driver information display can be customized to the driver's preference. The pre trip assistant allows the driver to perform a pre trip inspection with ease. The industry's first reclining lower bunk is a full size twin, thirty nine inches by eighty one inches. It features a premium innerspring mattress with a memory foam top along with a foldable upper bunk. The sleeper control panel provides all the controls needed at your fingertips from temperature to fan controls, the overhead light switch, clock, a panic button, and more to ensure your safety in the event of an emergency or intruders. The sleeper storage provides plenty of space, enough to hang your clothes, and it includes a footlocker. This is the largest refrigerator on the market in its sleeper class. It has a roomy two point one cubic feet of interior space. It is easy to clean and maintain with quiet operation. Averitt provides a TV prep kit with an antenna for up to a twenty four inches flat screen TV. My company Averitt has put me in one of the safest trucks on the road. This Volvo, it is just top of the line when it comes to safety and control, and I can really appreciate Averitt Express for putting me in this truck.
VNR Daycab
Hi, I'm Doug Lloyd, Director of Maintenance at Averitt Express. We are here today at Volvo's Customer Center with some of our best Averitt drivers to get their feedback on Volvo Trucks' latest innovations in safety, comfort, and driver productivity. We are proud of our long standing partnership with Volvo Trucks, and our driver's input helps us to work together to better protect and support them on the road. Additionally, Volvo Active Driver Assist provides adaptive cruise control to help Averitt drivers maintain a safe following distance. Volvo Active Driver Assist also integrates a lane departure warning system. This system alerts Averitt drivers when an unintentional lane change occurs if the turn signal is not activated. I feel safe in the Volvo VNR because of the safety features, the maneuverability that I have in it, things that I can do, and it's like it looks out for me. Averitt trucks are also equipped with a right side blind spot monitoring system. The sensor monitors the right side of the vehicle providing driver audible and visual alerts on the right side A pillar. With the Averitt VNR, all lighting inside and out is LED. The new LED headlamps on the VNR provides several advantages. One, it has the expectancy of over ten thousand hours improving uptime. Two, the color of LED lights is closer to daylight, which helps reduce eye strain. Our LED lighting is best in class and improves visibility for safety and driving performance. And finally, Volvo headlamps have a unique feature that circulates air to prevent fogging and ice formation. The Volvo VNR has one of the shortest bumper to backer cabs in the market. At one hundred and thirteen inches, this allows for better maneuverability, especially in tight turning areas and when operating with forty eight foot or fifty three foot trailers. With VNR truck the maneuverability is really like having a single axle because it cuts so well you don't need as many rotations of the steering wheel to make it around an obstacle You can just kind of glide into it. As you can see here, the hood has been designed to blanket the engine compartment. This allows for better visibility off the front end of the vehicle and an improvement of four inches off the corners of the vehicles from the previous model. The bumper itself has been designed with the shape of the hood, giving the driver more confidence when turning in tight spaces. The bumper is a durable three piece bumper with a center steel section and plastic side sections. This allows for better protection in the front end and serviceability and replacement for the corners. Averitt tractors are equipped with hood mirrors on both sides for improved visibility and are now heated to help with defrosting. Speaking of the hood, any Averitt driver can easily access the hood latch from inside the cab while standing on the ground. Improve access for checking fluids as part of the pre trip inspection. Underneath the hood, the hood latch is mounted to the cab to reduce hood vibration. The new hood on the VNR is so much easier because before you had those little straps on the side. So now you just pull the release and then you grab it and there you are. Averitt trucks are equipped with the latest Volvo powertrain. This includes the D13, a fuel efficient thirteen liter engine coupled to the Volvo I Shift automated manual transmission. The Volvo I Shift has twelve Ford gears to provide smooth acceleration for all types of loads and operating conditions. Without having to shift gears, you're able to focus more on driving, and it helps reduce fatigue during operation. With our new cabs, we have improved the ease of entry and exit to the cab for any type of driver. Puddle lamps provide visibility. The doors on the VNR have an extremely wide opening to make it easier to enter and exit the cab, with the ideal position of a grab handle for three point contact. The steps are molded into the fans and have anti skid perforations. Notice the new sleek interior trim, which includes metal hex panels. The seat has a variety of adjustment options, including lumbar support to make it more comfortable for every driver. The driving environment has been ergonomically designed. Notice the switches are strategically positioned. To the left of the steering wheel are the switches that support the driver if they need access to controls outside the vehicle. The layout and design of the steering wheel controls are very similar to what you can have in your car. Audio, phone, and cruise control all within easy reach, you to keep your hands on the wheel and focus on the road. The power windows have the one touchdown feature. The driver information display can be customized to the driver's preference with pre trip diagnostics allowing the driver to perform a pre trip inspection with ease. I appreciate Averitt buying us such a safe vehicle and for being so concerned with our safety while we're in the truck. And I appreciate Valo making such a safe truck.
