Birmingham team shuttle drivers Chariot and William Hughes share how they got into the transportation industry, how they met each other, and what brought them to the Averitt team!
I had been a stay at home mom and needed something that was just going to help secure employment and stuff so I didn't know if I'd be able to get through it but I did and I went and went to school and started driving and I love it. I would be out on the roof in the hot summer watching the trucks go by you know and I thought you know that would life right there, sitting in the truck, air conditioner on, you know, nobody over you looking over your shoulder. So, you know, that's kinda what motivated me to get into it. It was crazy. We we met in a snowstorm in Arkansas. We got snowed we got snowed in the same truck stop for, like, two days. Yeah. Two or three days. It was three days before we got out of the way. Yeah. Yeah. We were I was working for a different company, and he was working for a different company, and we had just been in the same truck stop and had met and we were all snowed in and ended up connecting and we've been inseparable ever since. Pay, the home time, and you know the benefits and everything just really was appealing over here. Then you know it's kind of crazy because like I said I've drove for twenty years but the amount of professionalism and everything over here is just so much better than any company I've ever dealt with. How they are about treating the drivers, you know, and their focus on the drivers and, you know, how they're doing, whether they're happy or not, know, how everything's going for them. So, know, that says a lot. To me the orientation I noticed here differently than other companies is they they try to take their time to explain everything in detail to you versus trying to hurry up and get you through orientation and get you out the door in a truck and you not getting all the information, everything you need, you know, to be able to start the job. And I've never seen a company have so many employees that have been here as long as they've been here like over twenty years. I mean that is amazing. Unless you see a lot about the company itself you know the drivers are you know, happy here. Yeah. And so, you know. The motto about hiring to retire you is like, you can see that it's actually implemented here.
