Walk Through Our Freightliner Equipment
In this video, you'll see all the features on the outside and inside of our current model of Freightliner Cascadias, including the newly redesigned sleeper berth.
hey everybody Dave Broyles and we got a great video today we're going to talk about the new 2018 freight liners coming out as you can see this truck is a 4980 this first one we got on the fleet while the design changes really neat-looking I think with the mirrors the different angles of mirrors the hood the lights everything it's a great looking truck and there's a lot of good features on the truck and today I got somebody with the to a good friend of mine Gary Craighead Gary's a 30 year driver with us and so we're going to go over the truck a little bit we're gonna go inside outside talk about some of the safety features on this truck it's a putting a lot of these trucks in the system this year there's a lot of good features on it as you can see down here fot those of you don't have it this part right down here that's the forward mitigation collision system and that tells you if you're too close on somebody somebody slowing down you're getting too close on somebody it'll help stop the truck they get too close to somebody it's gonna help slow the truck down mitigate a crash kind of help us all that kind of stuff lots of safety features in here it's got the lane departure warning get the lane we don't have our blinkers on well you get your left-hand blinker on and you're getting out of the lane you're fine so you don't have your blinker on you getting out of the lane it's gonna give you a little rumble strip type warning tells you hey you're getting out of the lane yeah why do we do that kind of thing as it helps prevent those side swipes last year 2017 you know we decreased our preventable accidents overall as a company in truckload we've decreased by 25% a lot of its attributable to all the safety features we got on this truck is to protect the drivers protect equipment and make everybody's life a lot safer so these are great features one of the other features over here on the side of the truck that's really a good feature it's this little black thing right down here sits right here it's the blind spot detector and this blind spot detector really help to find out if you've got a driver a truck or a car right here in your blind spot you're starting to move over it's gonna warn you hey you got somebody here you can't see that certain seating here but it helps prevent that sideswipe back sideswipe accidents are usually severe accidents so we've prevented a lot of those with just this little blind spot detector so these safety features on these trucks are really nice these are good truck got a little view on side there what you know with the side side trip looks like we'll go around the driver's side take a look at the driver's side but these trucks I'll go inside in a minute to show you how much space they have it's amazing the design and what they've done with these truck now you look up there is a windshield up in the corner of the windshield up there you'll see the event recorder and the event recorder saved us a ton for the second care of drivers it's proven who's at fault with the accident and ways we know our professional drivers most the time accidents are not our fault eighty percent of the time they're not there's somebody else for that event reporter proves what happens it's also got the little camera up there that helps us make sure we're in the right lane it's got the radar and the camera says hey you're getting out of your lane you're standing you need to be staying in the right lane so that's what all that's about up right in the front one of the quick thing I wanted to talk about was the engine on this truck to detroit dt 12 nice quiet it's amazing on the inside till you start this truck up how quiet the truck is no we were just talked about that little while ago the differences in this truck versus on the other truck can you close the doors it's like almost going to like the whole day is this your Mercedes comparing some of the trucks you got now everything's real nice too tight quiet when you're driving it's not as noisy used to be a lot of muffling on the sound great engine great transmission these are going to be great great trucks for us moving forward this is the driver's side getting the driver's side it looks a lot like the rest of the trucks of some other features in there we're going to go over and talk about some of the changes the nice thing is the EZ driver access to everything you're going to have to all everything is easy to get to it's ergonomically designed a lot of difference between now and 20 years ago and even this year to this last year this year the changes in the trucks are phenomenal this is a great truck and let's climb inside this truck now take a look at let's take a look at the inside and all the features on the inside and we'll get Gary to help us out his David was talking about some of the comforts of this truck and everything is just real easy to reach the chair is very comfortable in this and this you've noticed they've changed the colors in it just a little bit too so it doesn't show dirt and here as much as it did but just the comforts that this thing has you don't have to reach out very far at all to do anything because everything is just right around the wheel most of it is in the wheel the Bluetooth and everything of course you reach from the wheel all the lights and switches all the heater controls AM/FM radio of course it's got the CD player in it the new IVG how much smaller it is it doesn't take that near as much space on the dash the dash in this thing - everything is real close everything in the dash is all LED lit as you can see everything comes from this and you can also do your pre trip on this truck you can set the pre trip button on it and get out and go check all of your lights anything and everything that's on it you can check from inside this all you have to do is just set your pre trip get out walk around the truck without having to turn your four ways on checks everything it's on the truck and even if you're hooked to a trailer it checks everything that's on the trailer it's got the easy access to get back into the sleeper to clean your room in front of the seat behind the seat and like I said this seat is very comfortable so it's got so many different adjustments and stuff on the seats that you can just fix it the way that you want - plenty of visibility out across the hood it's got the hood it's tilted over so far so most to get the aerodynamics how they were a lot of real good view out for the mirrors and even everything that's in front of you real close it's a very nice truck very comfortable and the tilt the tilt on the freight liners most of the time tilted with your foot this one's on the on the steering column itself now just in under the wheel so of course they come with electric windows on both sides on these your mirror adjustments and everything are on the inside so it's it's one of the best trucks it is the best truck that I think the Averitt has ever had as far as the freightliners and stuff - I like a freightliner and this one is very nice very nice very comfortable very quiet the sound inside I guess as you can hear we're talking now the sound is really really quiet it's got a lot of deadening in it to take the motor noise out it's just like being in a car this is also something maybe with a freight liner it's where they boarded mounted the pv2 the sea beast and and it's got all the connections you need everything like that but it's at a better location it used to be overhead for the front liners now that put it down here and everything's ready to go all the power cables and all the connections everything you needs right here that's a really neat feature where it's at I think I think the location of it's a lot better here we on the back to the truck and this trucks a lot different that trucks have had the past course you can see right here you know before you always had to sit on the double bunks you had a bunk here to sit on the other bunk with a buck again you can raise it up but now we actually got a chair you're sitting in the chair you got a little desk workspace work run computer playing games on the computer doing whatever you got another chair on the other side over there that you're late you're able to sit in if you want to if you got two of you whatever you want to do it's got a little workspace here that's something really different and something else that drivers ask for for a long time you know it's something to do this year that we've gotta come out with and that's right here there's a panel right here and when you open that handle and you pull it towards you we've got a built-in refrigerator and how cool is that to have that so that we don't have to worry about the cooler and having a cooler in here it's in the walkway all that stuff this is built in got a nice refrigerator this is something I know drivers have asked for for a long time so this is coming you're coming true right now I think it's a great feature saves y'all money for having to buy coolers keep being in the way gives you more room in the truck when you're living here so this is just something I think it's really really something when you open it just be careful cuz if the handle is in the middle and then it swings toward the front so be careful with that right above it it's got a drawer with an extra little drawer space somewhere to put the private and stuff where you have to sleep in your wallets things like that that's the nice thing that the truck has got so much space in the way it's design it's amazing I'm gonna stand up and kind of show you what I'm talking about I'm six four so I'm a pretty good size of guy and I can touch an eight-foot ceiling then right here at this part I can't touch a foot so you don't feel like you're cramped when you stand up you got lots of room it's um it's kind of like a bedroom in a sense you notice it's more homey i guess it's not as cramped as it used to be storage space there's so much storage space in this truck it is crazy how much storage space there so some place you could actually live in for a lot longer than a week at a time if you wanted to there's more storage space down here at the bottom again it's just everywhere you look they took advantage of it it's ergonomically designed you feel like you got a lot of room there's lots and lots of storage space so you really thought about the driver had the driver in mind and be on the road took care of the driver in this truck I think it's one of the best trucks I've seen I'm really proud that we've done something like this for our drivers we've gotta be a vehicle like this but then drive in overhead compartments again different front it's a great great truck one of the nice features right here we've got the TV mount and just lift up on that on this little piece right here and it allows you to switch swivel it out put your TV in there you laying down you're watching TV or you can sit there in the chair you watch the TV so let's kind of the TV mount that's something new this is a good place to store got nice and stable secure things that's also new and again it's all about hey how can we make it comfortable for the driver and they've done a great job in this Cascadia truck his neighbor was talking about all the storage and everything it's in this truck to myself I like to stay going for a while when I was driving I'd stay gone for three or four months at a time stuff like this really came in handy for me the storage the work area that's here it's got a place for your TV also got a place for your microwave up here too plenty of hookups for extra stuff like your microwave TVs all kinds of outlets and you can sit down here and maybe if you want to take a meal with you or something to warm it up in the microwave you can sit right here and do work on your laptop and also eat a meal I know you guys it's been out there and done it before you don't want to sit on the side of the bunk and try to eat some kind of a meal or sit in the driver's seat and try to eat off the steering wheel so this is gonna be absolutely a plus here so even if you don't use it all the time and you get ready to get in bed or it's this table slides that's got cup holders back here in the back extra storage back here it slides back and here's the neat part about it because you think that you've got this work area that you don't have the bunk that you normally have well this one does and I'll show you how it works the table just pull this and let it down the chairs do the same thing on both sides all right this one's got the bunk it's made into the back and it's the exact same bunk maybe just a little bit wider than we had before in the regular trucks that we drove in the Cascadia real easy access it's out of the way when you get ready to lay down you can just flip the switch Frank sit down covers everything up and you've got full access the full-size bunk like it's normally in the Cascadia it is plenty of room in step two you still got access to everything like your TV if you want to lay in bed and watch TV all the storage and stuff it doesn't cover up anything really other than the table in the chairs so you know your of course you're not going to use the table and sure as the work area when you think it'll fit so it's very very good at how they've designed this drunk and it's gonna be a plus for all of us need for tall folks like me we got a mattress like at that and be comfortable right yeah I'm about four inches shorter than David is not only six foot tall so you can kind of see me walking around in here there's enough people over there in that places so I can stand on my shoulders just about it's unbelievable how much room it's got and the LED lights that it's got in it are a whole lot better excuse me a whole lot better than the bulbs that we used to have because it makes it so much brighter it's easy access or eat a whole lot easier to do your paperwork or anything together though you don't have to strain your eyes here hold the flashlight over you paper work and you can see it's just as easy to put back up as it is to take down and you could be from the bed to the table just enough in a minute
Hi, I'm Doug Lloyd, Director of Maintenance at Averitt Express. We are here today at Volvo's Customer Center with some of our best Averitt drivers to get their feedback on Volvo Trucks' latest innovations in safety, comfort, and driver productivity. We are proud of our long standing partnership with Volvo Trucks, and our driver's input helps us to work together to better protect and support them on the road. Driver satisfaction is important to our company and Volvo. At Averitt, we take advantage of every safety technology Volvo offers because our number one goal is to ensure our drivers' well-being. At Volvo, we spare no expense in providing the most advanced safety systems for our customers, and Averitt shares that same value. Volvo Active Driver Assist has a forward facing camera and radar to assist with collision avoidance. The camera and radar work together to detect slow moving and stationary vehicles in front of the truck. Once detected, audio and visual warnings alert the driver to take necessary actions to avoid a potential collision. This includes a heads up warning display in the windshield. If the driver does not take action, Volvo Active Driver Assist will begin to slow the vehicle down and engage the brakes to help the driver stop the vehicle. Additionally, Volvo Active Driver Assist provides adaptive cruise control to help Averitt drivers maintain a safe following distance. Volvo Active Driver Assist also integrates a lane departure warning system. This system alerts Averitt drivers when an unintentional lane change occurs if the turn signal is not activated. I feel safe in the Volvo VNR because of the safety features, the maneuverability that I have in it, things that I can do, and it's like it looks out for me. Averitt trucks are also equipped with a right side blind spot monitoring system. The sensor monitors the right side of the vehicle providing driver audible and visual alerts on the right side A pillar. With the Averitt VNR, all lighting inside and out is LED. The new LED headlamps on the VNR provides several advantages. One, it has the expectancy of over ten thousand hours improving uptime. Two, the color of LED lights is closer to daylight, which helps reduce eye strain. Our LED lighting is best in class and improves visibility for safety and driving performance. And finally, Volvo headlamps have a unique feature that circulates air to prevent fogging and ice formation. The Volvo VNR has one of the shortest bumper to backer cabs in the market. At one hundred and thirteen inches, this allows for better maneuverability, especially in tight turning areas and when operating with forty eight foot or fifty three foot trailers. With VNR truck the maneuverability is really like having a single axle because it cuts so well you don't need as many rotations of the steering wheel to make it around an obstacle You can just kind of glide into it. As you can see here, the hood has been designed to blanket the engine compartment. This allows for better visibility off the front end of the vehicle and an improvement of four inches off the corners of the vehicles from the previous model. The bumper itself has been designed with the shape of the hood, giving the driver more confidence when turning in tight spaces. The bumper is a durable three piece bumper with a center steel section and plastic side sections. This allows for better protection in the front end and serviceability and replacement for the corners. Averitt tractors are equipped with hood mirrors on both sides for improved visibility and are now heated to help with defrosting. Speaking of the hood, any Averitt driver can easily access the hood latch from inside the cab while standing on the ground. Improve access for checking fluids as part of the pre trip inspection. Underneath the hood, the hood latch is mounted to the cab to reduce hood vibration. The new hood on the VNR is so much easier because before you had those little straps on the side. So now you just pull the release and then you grab it and there you are. Averitt trucks are equipped with the latest Volvo powertrain. This includes the D13, a fuel efficient thirteen liter engine coupled to the Volvo I Shift automated manual transmission. The Volvo I Shift has twelve Ford gears to provide smooth acceleration for all types of loads and operating conditions. Without having to shift gears, you're able to focus more on driving, and it helps reduce fatigue during operation. With our new cabs, we have improved the ease of entry and exit to the cab for any type of driver. Puddle lamps provide visibility. The doors on the VNR have an extremely wide opening to make it easier to enter and exit the cab, with the ideal position of a grab handle for three point contact. The steps are molded into the fans and have anti skid perforations. Notice the new sleek interior trim, which includes metal hex panels. The seat has a variety of adjustment options, including lumbar support to make it more comfortable for every driver. The driving environment has been ergonomically designed. Notice the switches are strategically positioned. To the left of the steering wheel are the switches that support the driver if they need access to controls outside the vehicle. This includes the ignition. The switches normally used during driving are located to the right of the steering wheel in an easy to see and reach position. For example, this includes fifth wheel controls, controls the hook and drop trailers, and any other switches used to operate the vehicle. The secondary auxiliary switches that are not commonly used from the driver's seat are positioned to the right of the driver below the wheel. The layout and design of the steering wheel controls are very similar to what you can have in your car. Audio, phone, and cruise control all within easy reach, you to keep your hands on the wheel and focus on the road. The power windows have the one touchdown feature. The driver information display can be customized to the driver's preference with pre trip diagnostics allowing the driver to perform a pre trip inspection with ease. I appreciate Averitt buying us such a safe vehicle and for being so concerned with our safety while we're in the truck. And I appreciate Valo making such a safe truck.
